Introducing Bruce Morton – our new Div 1 Coach!

Hayden Mitchell our Rugby Operations Manager along with everyone at Shirley Rugby, welcomes Bruce Morton as our 2017 Division 1 Coach for our 100th year and beyond! Here is a word from the man himself…….

“It is an honour and privilege to be appointed the Head Coach for Shirley Vikings Div 1 side in this important year. 100 years is a magnificent milestone in the clubs history and one that I sense we are all looking forward to being a part of. Everyone I’ve met so far has been passionate, welcoming and enthusiastic so a massive thank you to you all.

Team before self is an important concept we will be talking a lot about this season. However I’m sure some of you might like to know a little about my background. In a nutshell my rugby coaching began in earnest in 2003 as a Development Officer in Melbourne. I then moved to the Middle East where I worked as the Development Manager for the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union in the Middle East. Since 2003 I have coached club and representative sides from U12 to open grades during most seasons. I returned home to Christchurch mid 2011 and from 2012-2015 I coached the Christchurch Football Club Colts Premier backs with one final and two semi-final appearances.

Part of the great enjoyment of coaching for me is working as a team and from everyone I have met so far I’ve no doubt we will have a brilliant group on and off the field. So thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to a fantastic 2017!”
